HK Actress Karena Lam

HK Actress Karena LamHONG KONG: Hong Kong actress Karena Lam’s management company has released an official statement on Wednesday, clarifying that the 32-year-old had not completely left the industry but has gone back to school, reported Chinese media.

Speculation has been rife that Lam had retired from film, as she had been absent from recent promotional activities for upcoming film “Don Quixote”.

“Anyone who knows Lam would also know that she loves film but not the exposure that comes with being an artiste. Our mutual understanding is that if she finds a good script, she will still take on film roles.

“As to why Lam was absent from the promotional activities for (soon to be released Chinese film) ‘Don Quixote’, it was because Lam had already told us that she will be heading overseas for her studies,” Filmko Holdings said in a statement.

The firm pointed out that it had established a new working relationship with her, and explained that “the company will continue to give Karena Lam freedom and respect”.

Lam plays the titular hero’s love interest in Chinese film “Don Quixote”. It is also Lam’s first role that requires her to don period costumes.

“Don Quixote” took three years to produce and will be the very first Chinese film to be shot completely in 3D.

The film, about a hero’s journey through troubled times, is touted as the Chinese answer to the Hollywood blockbuster “Avatar”.
