Kim Kardashian W Magazine Art:Kim Kardashian naked on the cover of November, U. This is the third annual edition of the magazine Art. Of course, the naked reality stars on the front of the publication has nothing to do with art, but it has everything to do with selling copies.
According to a recent story in the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. magazine newsstand sales fell 5.6% in the first half of 2010, while total circulation decreased by 2.3%.
The magazine industry has been in trouble a few years, which may be one reason why we see a rash exposed stars on the covers of various periodicals.
In other words, celebrities are naked, because the king is naked.
Rolling Stone recently put three stars of the vampire series “True Blood” on the cover-nude and spattered with blood. ESPN Magazine, not to be outdone, put Diana Taurasi on the cover of his “Body Question”, and made five other nude covers other athletes to go along with the layout of Taurasi’s.
For the record, Taurasi played basketball. And it does not matter she’s naked.
Of course, no clothes cover subjects are not new. Demi Moore helped boost the trend when she appeared naked and pregnant on the cover of Vanity Fair in 1991. Photos taken with Annie Leibovitz, has caused a storm of controversy at the time and some newsagents will not display the issue. Those days seem so far away, like “Mad Men”. Earlier this month, Time magazine put a naked pregnant woman on the cover and the general public just yawned.
Photos of pregnancy is not enough to attract attention. Maybe pictures of conception to be far behind?
There will undoubtedly be more naked covers in the near future. Kardashian, or one of her sisters are safe bets in some way be part of such efforts in the future. Many other stars of the reality, of course, would remove every stitch, if they so much as get a call from the magazine Cat Fancy. But every time the star bares all, he is likely to move as many questions as before. And magazines will just have to come up with another way to titillate us into buying their products.
